State marks American Heart Month with proclamations

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — People across the country will help spread awareness about heart disease on National Wear Red Day.

Wednesday in Frankfort, Gov. Andy Beshear and other state leaders met with the American Heart Association to sign proclamations for American Heart Month in February and National Wear Red Day here in Kentucky.

Beshear says more still needs to be done in the fight against heart disease.

“We have to do better when it comes to addressing heart disease. I believe that healthcare is a basic human right and I believe it’s the government’s responsibility to do everything we can to try and make sure everyone has access in some way no matter where they live, no matter how young or how old, no matter how much money they have,” Beshear said.

The official National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 2.
