State has almost 3,000 new COVID cases, hospitalizations double in 12 days
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Masks and vaccinations — that was Gov. Andy Beshear’s plea Wednesday as the state’s COVID cases, positivity rate, hospitalizations and now deaths continue to increase sharply.
“Today is another alarming day in our battle against COVID-19 as cases, hospitalizations and now deaths continue to escalate. I am reporting 2,961 newly reported cases of COVID and a positivity rate above 11%. We have to act now. Wear a mask when indoors and get vaccinated,” Beshear stated in a video release.
In its daily report Wednesday, the state confirmed 2,961 new cases, up from 2,500 Tuesday. which had been the highest one-day total since January.
Wednesday’s number pushed the total cases in the state since the outbreak began to 505,632.
Other critical indicators about the spread of the virus also continued up.
The positivity rate rose from 11.05% Tuesday to 11.22%.
The state reported 14 new coronavirus-related deaths, the highest one-day total in weeks. The number brought the total death toll since the pandemic began in March 2020 to 7,408.
The state reported 1,327 people in the hospital, up from 1,251 Tuesday, 1,139 people Monday, 976 Friday, 939 people Thursday, 889 last Wednesday, 824 last Tuesday and 625 just 12 days ago.
In addition 363 people are in ICU, up 339 Tuesday, 331 Monday, 286 Friday, 275 last Wednesday, and 263 last Tuesday. Meanwhile, 169 people were reported on a ventilator, up from 168 Tuesday, 158 Monday, 121 Friday, 108 Thursday, and 100 last Wednesday.
