“Standing with Standing Rock” Protest to be Held Sunday in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – In solidarity with protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota, local organizers are planning a protest of their own in Frankfort this Sunday at noon.

The protest in Frankfort will coincide with a larger protest at the same time in North Dakota.

The Facebook event page currently shows over 600 people interested in attending the event, with over 6,000 invited.

Organizers say Veterans, Native Americans, and more will attend, including Chief David Fallis of the Southern Cherokee Tribe of Kentucky.

A statement from Fallis expresses the inclusiveness of the event, reading, in part, “This is not just for veterans and people of Native blood. This welcomes all people who are sick and tired of our government allowing big oil money to control our every movement.”

The protest will take place at the Kentucky State Capitol at 700 Capitol Avenue.
