Special Olympics summer games return to EKU

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) -In Madison County, the Special Olympics State Summer Games are returning to Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond this week. Organizers expect more than a thousand Special Olympics athletes and over 500 volunteers from across the state to participate.

The games will take place from Friday through Sunday, with a number of events leading up to them. Staff and volunteers will begin arriving on campus Wednesday.

Additionally, the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run will kick off at the State Capitol on Friday morning, marking the official start of the games.
