Speaker bans senator’s son for inappropriate comments

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky’s GOP House speaker has banned the son of one of the Senate’s top Republicans from the third floor of the legislative office building for allegedly making inappropriate comments.

House Speaker Jeff Hoover said he authorized the ban of Dan Seum Jr. because the director of the Legislative Research Commission requested it. Seum is the son of Senate Republican Caucus chairman Dan Seum Sr. of Louisville.

Dan Seum Jr. told The Courier-Journal it was all a misunderstanding. He told the newspaper he was quoting a racist comment and discussing how troubling it was.

Dan Seum Sr. said Hoover did not discuss the decision with him. He said he wasn’t angry because he does not know the full story and has “nothing to be angry about.”
