Somerset shooting suspect arrested

SOMERSET, Ky. (WTVQ) — Somerset police reported an arrest that occurred late Wednesday night, after a weeklong search aided by public tips.

Just before midnight, SPD received a tip that Randy T. Kauffman was staying in a trailer near the scene of Saturday’s shooting.  Upon further investigation, they found Kauffman may actually be in an apartment on West Ky 80.

Sergeants moved in on the apartment and arrested the suspect without further incident.

“We want to thank everyone who called in with information on Kauffman’s whereabouts,” said Chief of Police Doug Nelson. “We received numerous tips since the shooting happened and thanks to the public’s input, Kauffman has been captured.”
Randy Kauffman was charged with first degree assault, based on a Pulasky District Warrant secured by SPD.
