Somerset PD: Burglary suspect arrested one hour after release from jail
SOMERSET, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Somerset say a man arrested on a burglary charge on Saturday had been released from the Pulaski Co. Detention Center only an hour beforehand.
Officers say a neighbor called 911 Saturday evening, after seeing 26-year-old Jonathan S. Whitaker enter the back door of an unoccupied home on Langdon Street.
Officers say when they arrived, they were able to see Whitaker in the home and called for backup. Aided by the Pulaski Co. Sheriff and Constable units, police say they used pepper spray in the attic where they believed Whitaker was hiding. Ultimately, Whitaker slipped through the ceiling, and police pulled him down and took him into custody.
Police say Whitaker had items from the home in his possession.
According to officers, Whitaker had been released from Pulaski Co. Detention Center only an hour earlier, after serving time on an unrelated trespassing charge.
He is now charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, and resisting arrest. He is now back in the Pulaski Co. Detention Center.
