Somerset Going to Natural Gas for Vehicles

Leaders in Somerset think they’re on to something with using natural gas as an alternative to regular gasoline.

The city recently purchased a gas station and is in the process of converting it to a natural gas station.

The city already has one Honda Civic that runs on natural gas and is in the process of buying three more vehicles.

Mayor  Eddie Girdler also wants local schools to offer certification classes on working with natural gas vehicles. He says that industry could create more than two thousand jobs in south-central Kentucky and help put coal miners back to work, utilizing their skills.

Girdler says neither the State or Federal Governments have given the city any money for the natural gas cars or station. He hopes other towns like Lexington will ‘catch-on’ with what they’re doing in Somerset and pressure government to do more with natural gas.
