Some U of L trustees want bigger role in running school

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Following complaints that University of Louisville trustees were denied information about problems at the school, some of them are asking for a bigger role in running it.

The Courier-Journal reports (http://cjky.it/1DJDuy2) a proposal to be discussed in February calls for the board to be informed about sensitive issues before they are made public. It also calls for changing the focus of board meetings from "ritual and ceremony" to the "business of the university."

It comes about six months after a board member angrily complained that trustees were not given information about the resignation of a dean and a continuing medical education program being put on probation.

Board Chairman Robert Hughes said he’s willing to discuss the ideas but believes only a small group of trustees holds those views.
