Solid Blue fans crossing their fingers as ‘Cats get ready for Georgia
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s going to be a big weekend for the cats. Big blue madness kicks off Friday. On Saturday. The football team takes on the number one team in the nation the Georgia Bull Dogs. So far this year we’ve seen our cats “claw” their way to rankings fans haven’t seen in decades. If they win at Athens, the team will be in the drivers seat for SEC East and a step closer to the SEC Championship game. For UK football fans, 2021 has been a different kind of year
“The thing about being a UK fan is the sports world is dominated by UK basketball and when you’re a hard core football fan it can be tough,” says George Hatherill, a UK fan.
All eyes are on the football field this season according to fans.
“Nobody knows Big Blue Madness is Friday because we’re worried about football this year. Nobody cares,” says Tony Tuck.
UK’s current streak is 6 and 0. Long time UK fans say their hearts beat blue and white and always have.
“I remember watching UK football with my dad, when I was probably 5 or 6,” says Hatherill.
“My son watches with me now he’s been going with me every year,” says Tuck.
This season, the cats have dominated the field, against teams like LSU.
“I’ve shaken my head a lot and said “Unbelievable during a lot of UK games this is the first time I’ve done it with a genuine smile on my face,” says Tuck.
Beating the Florida Gators was also a present surprise for fans this year after a 36 year streak.
“I Didn’t know they would win that one!! When they pulled that win off, it was unbelievable. Lets face it when was the last time we beat the gators,” says Hatherill.
“We always had hoped to beat Florida because of that streak we always go in and hoping we are going to win and I’m glad that we did this time,” adds Tuck.
This weekend, it will be another nail biter for fans, when the cats take on Georgia. Some fans are so confident they’re making predictions for the very end, while others are just hoping for a close game.
“I’ll be honest with you this Saturday I just want them to make a good showing if they even make it close..It’s going to be a win for us,” says Hatherill.
