Social Security scam reported in Knox County
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Knox County Sheriff’s Department is warning people about a phone scam using the Social Security Administration’s name.
Investigators say someone is calling people claiming to be with the Social Security Administration, who tells them there’s a computer issue and they need to confirm their social security number.
Investigators says it’s a scam and remind people never to give out personal or financial information over the phone to a stranger.
They also say if you’re directed to a website other than ssa.gov, that claims to be associated with the Social Security Administration, don’t respond.
