Snowshoe
Troy: Hey, everyone. Well, not every day do we get to do an interview in the middle of a snow, and also, up here, at Snowshoe Mountain.
I want to introduce you to PR Manager, Mr. Shawn Cassell. How are you, buddy?
Shawn Cassell: Good. I’m good, Troy.
Troy: Let’s talk a little bit about Snowshoe Mountain and what’s been going on.
Shawn Cassell: The season is rocking and rolling. We’re up to 47 out of our 60 trails are open already. You can see snow makings in full swing getting more open and getting a lot of events going on at the weekends. Our Ballhooter Spring Break Festival is this March; that’s a really fun [crosstalk 00:00:31].
Troy: Oh, nice. I like that.
Shawn Cassell: Yeah. Snowshoe’s the premier winter destination in the mid-Atlantic and southeast.
Troy: Is it?
Shawn Cassell: It is, yeah.
Troy: Well, let’s talk a little bit about the skiing, buddy. I want to talk a little bit about when it comes to those season passes.
Shawn Cassell: Yeah. You can get a one-day lift ticket; you can save money if you buy that in advance online. But the best way to do it is to get a season pass. Our Ridiculous Pass, we call it the Ridiculous Pass for a reason; it’s less than $250, you buy it towards the end of the season, and you get the rest of the season you’re in, and the entire next season-
Troy: That’s ridiculous.
Shawn Cassell: … with no blackouts and less than $250.
Troy: That’s ridiculous, I say.
Shawn Cassell: I don’t think there’s a better deal in skiing.
Troy: Now, let’s talk a little bit about the, is it the Ikon Pass?
Shawn Cassell: The Ikon Pass. I-K-O-N, Ikon Pass. That is a multi-resort pass; it’s got almost 40 resorts on it, including Thredbo [crosstalk 00:01:24] Australia-
Troy: My home town; where I learned to ski.
Shawn Cassell: … it’s an international pass. It’s got so many great resorts Jackson Hole, Steamboat-
Troy: Japan.
Shawn Cassell: Niseko United, in Japan, Killington, in Vermont.
Troy: It’s a good pass to get everywhere.
Shawn Cassell: It’s a really good spread, and here at Snowshoe as well.
Troy: Hey, man, I want to talk a little bit about accommodations because my accommodation is amazing.
Shawn Cassell: Pedestal House is pretty awesome, yeah.
Troy: Let’s do an overview of what’s going on.
Shawn Cassell: Yeah. As far as lodging goes on the mountain, we have everything from big condo buildings with studios and one-bedrooms, to more like cabins or town home style neighborhoods up here. The best thing about all of it, I would say 90% of it, is either ski-in, ski-out, or a very short walk to the slopes. That’s something that’s-
Troy: Yeah, mine’s like a three-minute walk.
Shawn Cassell: And that’s such a big deal about having a good ski trip, is you park the car and leave it parked.
Troy: The nightlife here goes off, the restaurants are great.
Shawn Cassell: Yeah, we’ve got a new kind of Japanese fusion place up here at Top of the World. You can have sushi, and that’s something that … there’s a lot of people who don’t like sushi, and we didn’t really have any consistent sushi places, but we have one now, so we’re [crosstalk 00:02:25] really excited about that.
Troy: Well, we have one now. Hey, Shawn, you’ve got to stop talking because we’ve got to get off.
Shawn Cassell: We do.
Troy: We’re going to get off.
Shawn Cassell: We do. Let’s go and get some sushi.
Troy: Yeah.
Shawn Cassell: Yeah.
