Eight displaced after kitchen fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Eight people were displaced following a structure fire at a home on Geranium Lane in Lexington, according to fire officials.

Chief Matt Galati with the Lexington Fire Department said crews were dispatched after receiving a report that something was on fire. The home was built in 2024, and firefighters saw nothing showing when they arrived.

Galati said once crews entered the home, they encountered heavy heat and smoke. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to locate the fire, in part due to a language barrier with occupants.

The fire was found in the kitchen and was quickly extinguished. Galati said smoke damage was reported throughout the home.

Eight people were displaced for at least a couple of nights. No injuries were reported.

At first glance, Galati said the fire appears to be cooking-related. The incident remains under investigation.
