Lexington, Ky (WTVQ): Silver Lexington held their annual senior living Christmas parade, visiting more than 25 senior living communities and nursing homes. This parade spreads Christmas cheer to thousands of senior citizens in the area. Silver Lexington, a senior living placement service, started their Christmas parade four years ago, during COVID to help lift people’s spirits
Amber Lakin, the co-owner of Silver Lexington, says, “It was finding a way to connect with the residents and the staff and bring them joy.”
Matthia Kelley, the Program Director at Senior Lex Solutions at Bluegrass Community hospital in Versailles, says, “Just to see someone smile, and to know that we may be the only person that they get to see during the holidays.”
This is Barb Pace’s second year enjoying the parade. “The enthusiasm that they show, and just Christmas spirit showing through, “she said. “And it’s good to be reminded of who all is out there supporting us. I’m impressed with all the work that goes into decorating their cars for us.”
The parade lasts about six hours in order to hit 25 communities. Susan Neville, a co-owner of Silver Lexington, says. “It’s just so moving to see some of them in their beds next to the window and they’re smiling and waving. It’s just so powerful,” she said.
“I hope it gets bigger every year. I feel like every year, people decorate a little bit more they get more excited,” Lakin said
