Shooting suspect injured in standoff with Boone County Deputies

UNION, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Northern Kentucky man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after allegedly exchanging gunfire with deputies during a standoff in Boone County.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Thursday on Saunders Lane in Union. Investigators say the suspect allegedly fired shots from a window at a landscaping crew working outside his home.

When deputies arrived, the suspect reportedly opened fire on them as well, prompting officers to return fire.

A SWAT team was called in, and after several hours, deputies say they used gas canisters to force the man to surrender. He was later found inside the home with a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

No deputies or civilians were injured, and the investigation is ongoing.
