Shooting-Stabbing in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Someone was stabbed and another shot in Richmond Thursday night at a time when things were already tense in the city because of a threat of violence on the Eastern Kentucky University campus in the form of graffiti spray-painted on a bathroom wall in an on-campus building.

Richmond Police say the violence erupted when a group of 15-to-20 people gathered on Ballard Drive. Investigators say one person was stabbed twice and rushed to U.K. Hospital in Lexington. Police say another person was grazed by a bullet, but did not go to the hospital.

Police say they’re still trying to determine what led to the violence, but that they are looking for three suspects. Because of the heightened law enforcement presence in and around the EKU campus, there was an increased police response to the incident on Ballard Drive.

Officials at Eastern Kentucky University released a statement following the reported incident on Ballard Drive saying that it wasn’t at all related to the threat of violence on the EKU campus.
