Shooter Fires 6 Rounds into Home on Burkewood Drive, Missing Family of Five
"Besides the vandalism last year right across the street, this is the worst right here, gunshots!,” said resident Malissa Jones.
Lexington Police say the incident happened at around 12:15 in the morning.
"Everything has been directed at a single residence,” said Lieutenant Chris Young.
Two bullets landed in the living room and three in the garage, while two adults and several children were inside. Jones is a close friend of the family.
"I thought the kids had gotten hurt!,” Jones said. "I look at them as nieces and nephews and her [their mother] as a sister.”
Jones says this is a close knit neighborhood where everyone knows each other. Yet the unknown alarmed many last night. Police lights and patrol cars flooded the street in search for clues into why this happened and who is responsible.
"Anytime you fire any type of weapon into a residence, it’s an extreme risk to anyone that’s in there. We’re very thankful that every one is safe”, added Lieutenant Young.
Jones is also thankful that her friends were not injured. She says its an unfortunate reality that violence is affecting all people no matter what street you live on.
“It just really hurts,” she said. “Young people it’s time to put the guns down, it’s time to put the guns down”.
Lexington police say while the investigation continues they will increase patrols in the area.
