Sheriff’s deputy injured in crash

A Madison County sheriff’s deputy is recovering after a car hit his police cruiser Friday morning, according to police.

The crash occured on U.S. 25 south of Berea. Police say Deputy Jim Thompson was parked in a gravell lot monitoring traffic when a vehicle traveling northbound smashed into his cruiser.

Police say the driver lost control of their car, which caused them to run off the road.

Thompson was taken to Berea/ ST Joseph Hospital where he was treated for back pains. Shortly after being released, Thompson went back to work. According to police, Thompson responded to two complaints because other deputies were busy.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
