Sheriff: Suspect stole fireworks, physically threatened victim, deputies

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel Co. Sheriff says a man suspected of stealing fireworks became physically combative towards the victim, and then later, to deputies in the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff, on several occasions, 33-year-old Daniel Bennett went to a fireworks tent and took items.  Witnesses tell deputies that they saw the thefts taking place, and notified the business owner.  When the owner arrived and approached Bennett, the Sheriff says Bennett used force the get away from the owner, nearly running her over and narrowly missing hitting another vehicle as he drove away.

Deputies say at about 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, they arrested Bennett, and took him to the Sheriff’s Office to be processed.  While there, deputies say Bennett again became aggressive, swearing and kicking at them, as well as damaging a wall and a bench in the booking room.  Bennett had to be physically escorted to the Laurel Co. Detention Center, according to the Sheriff.

Bennett has been charged with robbery, wanton endangerment, menacing, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
