Sheriff: Registered Sex Offenders Arrested For Using Social Media
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said two registered sex offenders were arrested over the weekend for allegedly using a social network.
According to deputies, Frankfort Police served a warrant Saturday morning on Steve Young.
Sheriff Pat Melton said Young, who is a convicted sex offender, was arrested for having a Facebook account.
According to Melton, Young was placed on the registry for 1st degree sexual abuse of a child.
Deputies said a separate warrant was served on Sunday for David Pena.
He was also accused of using a Facebook account.
According to Melton, Pena was placed on the registry for the rape of a teenager in Kansas.
Melton said Pena was also charged for not complying with the sex offender registry.
Melton said that the weekend arrests were among a total of four recent cases involving sex offenders charged with using social media.
