Sheriff: Mother watched as man beat her son
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Laurel County mother is arrested after investigators say she stood by and allowed her young child to be beaten, and the man accused of beating the child is not only facing charges for that assault but also for breaking a detective’s arm.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to St. Joseph Hospital on Thursday morning for a report of a 2-year-old suffering from injuries after being abused.
Deputies say they learned 23-year-old Dana Lorraine Casey watched as 24-year-old Dylan Trace Woods hit her son in the face with his hand and fist and used his elbow to severely injure him.
Investigators say the boy was not taken to the hospital until three hours later.
He was then taken to the University of Kentucky hospital for further treatment of what deputies say were severe injuries.
The sheriff says Woods and two other men who live in the home were brought to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed.
During the interview, the sheriff says Woods became extremely belligerent and began yelling and cursing at detectives then broke the arm of one of the detectives.
The sheriff says the detective’s arm was broken so badly, he needed surgery to repair it.
Woods was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, including assault against a police officer.
Casey is charged with criminal abuse of a child.
