Sheriff: Landlord steals more than $15,000 in items from tenant

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Deputies in Laurel County say hair extensions helped lead them to a burglar.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, on April 29, someone called to report several items were stolen from their home off West City Dam Road.

Among the $15,000 worth of items stolen – a Smart TV, karaoke speaker and hair extensions.

Deputies say their investigation led them to the landlord of the home, 34-year-old Sandra Lovins, of Keavy.

They say one key piece of evidence was hair extensions found in Lovins home, which were the same hair extensions taken from the victim.

According to deputies, Lovins confessed to taking the property, saying she was keeping it until she received past due rent.

Investigators recovered most of the stolen property, but say Lovins told them she gave the television to someone else and threw a suitcase and the karaoke speaker in a ditch off the roadway.

Lovins is charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking and tampering with physical evidence.
