Sheriff: Deputies use “pit maneuver” to stop suspect

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Somerset man is arrested after leading officers on a chase that left two deputy cruisers damaged.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies tried to stop a driver in a stolen car near the intersection of Murphy Avenue and South Main Street in Somerset on Tuesday.

Deputies say the driver took off and they pursued him for about 12 minutes up Highway 27 to Norwood Road, West Highway 80, Ringgold Road and Wilson Road.

They say the driver ignored stop signs and traffic lights, reaching speeds of up to 85 miles per hour.

Deputies used stop sticks and deflated the suspect’s tires, but he continued on.

The sheriff’s office says deputies then used what is known as a “pit maneuver” to stop the driver before he reached a busy intersection.

The suspect’s car was disabled and the deputies’ cruisers were damaged.

After a short foot chase, 23-year-old Jordan S. Coomer was taken into custody and booked on wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading police, criminal mischief and several other charges.

The sheriff’s office says neither the deputies nor the suspect were injured during the incident.
