Shelter asking for more help with rescues in Garrard County

UPDATE: Kirkpatrick’s hearing Monday has been rescheduled.

GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Garrard County Animal Shelter is urgently seeking assistance after rescuing dozens of huskies from a home in Lancaster earlier this month. The shelter is now asking rescue organizations across the state to help by taking in some of the dogs.

‘Paws 4 the Cause,’ a Lexington-based animal rescue group, has already taken in a few of the huskies but is actively looking for foster homes to accommodate more of them.

The homeowner, 64-year-old Dennis Kirkpatrick, has pleaded “not guilty” to charges of animal cruelty and torture following his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing at 10 a.m. today.
