Sheffler releases statement after charges dropped in Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Pro golfer Scottie Scheffler reacted on social media after charges against him in Louisville were dropped on Wednesday. In a statement on Instagram Live, Scheffler described the incident as an “unfortunate misunderstanding” and expressed his thoughts and prayers for the family of the person who was hit and killed.
As previously reported, Scheffler was arrested on May 17th after a deadly accident outside the entrance to the Valhalla Golf Club during the PGA Championship. Police alleged that Scheffler failed to obey traffic commands.
Wednesday, a judge agreed to drop the charges against Scheffler after the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office announced it would not prosecute following a review of the evidence.
Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, praised his client’s conduct, stating, “It is remarkable, the restraint and character he evidenced not only during the incident but also after, as he was being taken downtown. We need more Scottie Schefflers in the world.”
Scheffler was originally scheduled to appear in court on June 3rd for an arraignment, but that hearing has now been canceled.
