Gov. Andy Beshear urges preparedness as Severe Weather Week begins in Kentucky
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – As Severe Weather Week gets underway, Gov. Andy Beshear says Kentucky has endured 15 federally declared weather disasters during his time in office, each bringing unique challenges to communities across the commonwealth.
Beshear said those disasters — ranging from tornadoes and floods to winter storms — have tested Kentucky time and again. He added that communities have consistently stepped up, delivering what he called some of the best disaster responses in the country.
With Severe Weather Week continuing, the governor is encouraging Kentuckians to stay informed and take proactive steps to protect themselves and their families.
That includes reviewing emergency plans, ensuring weather alerts are enabled on mobile devices, identifying safe shelter locations in homes and workplaces, and assembling emergency supply kits.
State officials say Severe Weather Week is designed to raise awareness about the risks Kentucky faces and to help residents prepare before storms strike.
Beshear emphasized that preparation can save lives and reduce injuries when severe weather hits, urging everyone to remain vigilant as spring storm season approaches.
