Several car break-ins over holiday weekend in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) — It wasn’t exactly a happy Thanksgiving weekend for people in two Richmond neighborhoods.

That’s because their neighborhoods were hit by a string of over 20 vehicle break-ins.

People living there say they’re totally fed up with it.

Richmond Police say they’re looking for the man pictured above who was caught on camera by several people in the Covington Woods and Brookline neighborhoods rummaging through cars.

“This time of year we always see an increase in this type of behavior in neighborhoods, vehicles,” says Lieutenant Rodney Tudor with Richmond PD. “Especially with Christmas and packages being delivered, people go shopping they come home they leave things in their car and they forget about them.”

The neighborhood has even put together a reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Ed McDaniel, who lives in Brookline, says almost every house in the neighborhood has contributed to the reward.

“Well it started out each house was giving about $20 and then there were a couple others that chipped in some more,”says McDaniel. “It was around $500 but now I believe we’re around a thousand dollars.”

Ed says he was once victim of the vehicle break ins and he’s determined to put an end to it.

“Everybody here works hard for everything that they have so for someone to just come and take it,” says McDaniel. “It’s not right and it’s time for it to stop.”

Police are urging the public to be vigilant this time of year.

They say lock your car doors, never leave anything valuable in your car and just be aware.

Anyone with any information or knows the man pictured below is asked to contact Richmond Police at (859) 623-4776.
