Senate Bill 337 would aid in expanding access to Medical Marijuana

(WTVQ) — Although the law allowing medical marijuana in the state doesn’t take effect until the beginning of 2025, There is still much work to be done.

“A lot of it is just getting the things set up getting started. So the the list of conditions in the bill that are expanded,” says Sen. Stephen West, who helped co sponsor the bill says he hope to have lots of dialogue in the coming weeks regarding regulations and eligible conditions.

Senate Bill 337 would help expand eligible conditions for thousands.

“This list is simply the recommendations of that board of physicians. And so what we’re going through now is, we’re going to take a look at these conditions, and we’re going to decide as a legislature, should they stay in, should they come out,” he adds.

He says the effort to make it a reality last year, “it’s got to be one of the most vetted bills and the history of Kentucky. But I can I do believe our version of medical marijuana is, is one of the best in the country,” he also says.

Also adding that some want to jump into the conclusion but before even getting there it needs to be taken one step at a time.

“SB 47, is the skeleton, right? We’ve made the skeleton, the skeleton is in place. And now we’re in the process of attaching the ligaments in the muscle to the skeleton. So as more and more things are attached, you should see a big a better view of what the final product will look like,” he adds.

Those eligible will also need to apply for a medical marijuana card.

“It’s for tracking, make sure your legal and there’s proper tracking of the, the paint patient, so to speak. But there’s also the fact that it’s needed for law enforcement. It’s there also to protect the patient, when they’re going to and from, you know, when they’re in their vehicle,” said Sen. West.
