Seed Library ready for spring gardeners
WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) — Not just limited to books, the Clark County Public Library is offering seeds as well.
The library features over 80 varieties of seeds to choose from, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Guests only need a library card to get a ‘Seed library card’ – with which they can then take seeds from the stock.
You don’t have to worry about returning seeds at the end of the year, but there is a limit of how many seeds you can take. Angela Turner, reference librarian at the Clark County Public Library said guests can take up to 24 varieties of seed packets. She said there is no exact number of seeds per packet, but there should be plenty to start a garden.
Turner added that guests are not allowed to double up on seed types – while you could check out two different types of mint seeds, you couldn’t get two packets of spearmint. (Even if you really love mint)
What about returning the seeds? Well, no need to worry – the library does not need you to return seeds at the end of the harvest year. Turner said they are doing this to give back to the community. She also mentioned that, while the library would not be directly involved, there has been talk of a local seed exchange, for interested gardeners to trade strains with their neighbors.
