Second victim dies after South Broadway shooting in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A second person has died following Thursday evening’s shooting near South Broadway, according to an update from the Lexington Police Department.

In a release issued Friday, police say the second victim died from his injuries at a local hospital.

As previously reported, officers were called around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of Virginia Avenue for a reported shooting. When they arrived, police say they found three men who had been shot in a parking lot in the 1000 block of South Broadway.

One victim died at the scene. The other two were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police now say a second victim later died from those injuries, while the third victim remains in critical condition.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the victims.

Detectives say they are continuing to follow up on leads and information. Police are also asking nearby residents and businesses to review any surveillance or security camera footage that could help with the investigation.

The Lexington Clinic, whose corporate office is next door to the shooting scene, sent ABC 36 News Now the following statement, concerning the fatal shooting:

LEXINGTON, KY. – 01/02/2026 – Lexington Clinic is saddened by the news of a deadly shooƟng that took place in the parking lot its corporate office shares with other businesses on South Broadway.

The incident occurred when Lexington Clinic’s office was closed, and no Lexington Clinic staff were involved in this incident.

Lexington Clinic is assisting Lexington Police’s investigation by sharing surveillance video of the parking lot.

Lexington Clinic’s priority is the safety of its patients and employees. While the scene was cleared before its office opened Friday, Lexington Clinic had additional security on site to ensure the safety of its staff.
