Second suspect in missing Lexington teens case arraigned on evidence tampering charge
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – One of the men charged in connection with the case of two missing Lexington teenagers appeared in court Friday.
Court records show 47-year-old Jesus Reyes-Rodriguez was arraigned on a charge of tampering with physical evidence. He waived formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty. Reyes-Rodriguez, who is not currently in custody, is scheduled to return to court on December 12 at 1 p.m.
The case is connected to the disappearance and deaths of 16-year-old Ali Naqvi and 15-year-old Aoun Basboos, whose case drew national attention earlier this year.
As previously reported, a Fayette County grand jury indicted Reyes-Rodriguez and 18-year-old Jesus Reyes-Ocampo in September. Reyes-Ocampo faces two counts of murder and one count of evidence tampering. He was 17 at the time of his arrest and has since been ordered to stand trial as an adult.
The case began on May 11, when Naqvi and Basboos were last seen getting into the back seat of a car following a shots-fired incident on Spangler Drive. That car was later found near Loradale Market on Russell Cave Road, leading to the arrests of Reyes-Ocampo and Reyes-Rodriguez on May 15.
Naqvi’s body was later discovered in Harrison County. Basboos has never been found and is presumed dead, according to police. The search for his remains continues.
