Second suspect arrested in shooting of city employee
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with last month’s shooting on Winburn Drive that left a Lexington city employee critically injured.
According to Lexington police, 20-year-old Jermaine Shanks was arrested late Thursday night on charges of assault and wanton endangerment. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 1 p.m.
Police said a warrant for Shanks was issued just days after the arrest of 20-year-old Jon’tay Mattingly, the first suspect in the case.
Investigators believe both men are connected to the September 18 shooting of Stephon Vanzant, who was shot in the head while waiting at a bus stop near Winburn and McCullough drives.
According to police, Vanzant — a city employee — was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
