Second gas leak in three days at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A second gas leak in three days on UK campus has been patched after students and personnel were evacuated from Woodland Glen I-IV, Smith Hall, and Ingels Hall.

Representatives with Columbia Gas say the area is now open, and students and staff can safely re-enter.  They say they are staying on site to continue making permanent repairs.  No injuries were reported with the incident.

Officials say the gas line ruptured sometime around 8:20 a.m.  Nearly 200 people were evacuated from the buildings, as well as nearby construction crews.  Woodland Avenue was also closed for about an hour.

A gas leak also occurred Tuesday, in the same location.
