Search underway for man connected to assault & attempted kidnapping

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Lexington Police are searching for a man who they think attacked two people in separate incidents Tuesday morning.

Lexington Police say shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, officers responded to a stabbing that occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart located at 500 West New Circle Road.

They say the 76-year-old female victim reported that an unknown man tried to steal her purse. The man was unable to get the purse, but he cut and hit the victim before fleeing on foot. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Police say while they were circulating the area, another call came in of an attempted kidnapping in the nearby Lexmark parking lot. The victim in that incident, an 18-year-old female, told officers she was sitting in her car during a work break when she was suddenly approached from behind by an unknown man. The victim said the man covered her mouth and threatened her, but she was able to kick her way free and run away.

Both victims described the suspect as an older black man wearing a black shirt with white letters. Officers circulated the area but were unsuccessful in locating him.

Investigators have released surveillance video of the suspect from Walmart.
