Lexington homicide count reaches at least five as police search for suspect in Maywick View Lane stabbing

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Lexington has already seen at least five homicides so far this year, and police are still working to solve the most recent deadly case.

The latest homicide happened last week on Maywick View Lane, where officers with the Lexington Police Department say a man was found stabbed to death inside a home near Alexandria Drive and Versailles Road.

Investigators identified the victim as Walter Barnes Jr. and say the search continues for the person responsible.

Now, the case has been named the “Crime of the Week” by Bluegrass Crime Stoppers in hopes of generating new leads from the public.

Police are urging anyone who may know something — no matter how small it seems — to come forward. Tips can be shared directly with Lexington police or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
