Sean Woods gets second head coaching job in matter of months
Former UK Wildcat will coach the La Familia team in The Basketball Tournament
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Former Kentucky men’s basketball player and current Scott County boy’s hoops Head Coach, Sean Woods, is this year’s leader of La Familia for the team’s second ever The Basketball Tournament (TBT) run.
Woods was on former Head Coach Tyler Ulis’ staff last summer and helped guide the team to a Lexington Regional title along with a semifinal appearance in 2024.
The UK alumni team is hosting the Lexington Regional once again from July 18-22 inside Historic Memorial Coliseum and has former Wildcats Willie Cauley-Stein, Doron Lamb, DeAndre Liggins, Aaron Harrison and Andrew Harrison signed up to play.
“I feel honored and privileged to be a part of La Familia for the second year,” said Woods. “After last year’s terrific experience, I’m grateful that General Manager Twany Beckham has asked me to be the head coach. We’re looking forward to an even bigger and better experience than we did last summer. With the roster Twany has assembled, I’m very confident that we have a great chance of winning TBT and will continue to uphold Wildcat pride over the summer.”
Woods is well known for his time as an “Unforgettable” under former Kentucky head coach Rick Pitino and played for the Cats from 1988-92, when he amassed over 480 assists which is fifth in school history.
He has over 20 years of head coaching experience and has held multiple head coaching roles.
