Scott County Humane Society breaks ground for new facility
SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Scott County Humane Society held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a new $1.5 million adoption center that will expand services for one of Kentucky’s fastest-growing counties.
The 3,600-square-foot facility will be built on Lexington Road and is fully funded through donations and grants. Board members say the Humane Society has operated out of the same location for more than 15 years and has outgrown the space.
“This adoption center will be a space for animal rescue enthusiasts in Scott County to come together to do important, life-saving work, saving the homeless cats and dogs who need a voice,” said Cassie Ernst with the Scott County Humane Society.
Currently, the organization is caring for more than 200 cats and 20 dogs. Construction is set to begin this fall, with the new center expected to open by summer 2026.
