Scott County Humane Society almost half way to initial goal

$318,000 still needed to be able to break ground

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Scott County Humane Society is almost halfway to its $600,000 goal to be able to break ground on a new facility. Kicked off in November, the public campaign for a new adoption center has met a $100,000 match challenge. This brings the total raised so far to more than $282,000.

“We are grateful and so excited by the strong and fast community support. Our donors can see the need, and know how much this new space will help hundreds of homeless pets,” said Kriss Lowry, SCHS board chair. “Next step; we keep moving forward with the campaign full force. With continued support, we could be breaking ground next spring, which would be amazing for Scott County and our animals.”

The total project amount needed for the new Adoption Center to be built at 1376 Lexington Road in Georgetown is about $675,000. The Humane Society will break ground when $600,000 is raised and continue fundraising efforts while construction begins.

“We are off to an amazing start. We are almost halfway to the amount needed to break ground,” said Carrie Thayer Cardwell, development advisor for the group. “We are so blessed with a community that can recognize the need and take action to make this project happen. So many homeless pets will be better assisted when this facility is in place. We are eager to break ground and will work to keep this momentum going with the help of our great community.”

With a generous donation, the Scott County Humane Society (SCHS) has purchased 4.5 acres in Georgetown to build a 5,000-square-foot new adoption and education center. A public campaign was kicked off December 1, 2021. This is a needed facility to help more homeless animals by providing space for:

-adoptable cat and dog housing

-meet and greet rooms for adopters to meet their new pets

-room to isolate sick animals so they can heal

-large community room for pet ownership education

-wash, grooming and laundry areas

Scott County Humane Society has been operating in Georgetown since 1981. It is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization with the mission to ensure humane care and conditions for companion animals through spay/neuter, humane awareness education, and responsible pet adoption and ownership. The SCHS works directly with the municipal county shelter by taking animals into our foster care system, fully vetting them and adopting them to forever homes. They also offer low-cost spay and neuter options and pet food assistance to pet owners in need of assistance.
