Scott County firefighter arrested, accused of choking girlfriend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Scott County firefighter has landed behind bars after police say he choked his girlfriend.

According to court documents, 50-year-old Stephen Freeman was arrested Tuesday in Lexington after he “strangled his girlfriend by using his hand lifting her off the ground.”

He is charged with wanton endangerment.

Scott County Fire Chief Mike Fuller says Freeman is currently a firefighter with the Scott County Fire Department.

Fuller says he learned of the arrest on Wednesday morning and that “no determination has been made at this time about Freeman’s employment.”

Freeman is a former police officer with the Lexington Police Department.

Lexington Police Department Spokeswoman Brenna Angel says he worked with the department from 1999-2005.
