Scott County chooses new school superintendent

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Scott County Board of Education unanimously chose a new school superintendent at a special meeting Monday night. The board voted to offer a contract to Dr. Kevin Hub, who is currently the superintendent of Logan County Schools, according to a school board member.

Dr. Hub is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Environmental Geography, Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond with a Masters of Arts in Education degree in Geography Education, and Spalding University in Louisville with a Doctorate in Education in Leadership Education.

Prior to becoming superintendent of Logan County Schools, he was Assistant Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer for Madison County Schools in Richmond. Dr. Hub is in his twenty-second (22nd) year in education after serving in the military for forty (40) months including a six (6) month tour in Desert Storm where he was awarded the Bronze Star medal and the Army Commendation medal with “V” device for Valor.

In addition since 2012, he has served as an adjunct instructor for the University of the Cumberlands after serving as an adjunct instructor for Eastern Kentucky University off and on since 1995.

Dr. Hub began teaching geography and mathematics at Madison Central High School in August of 1994, became their assistant principal in January of 2000, and was assistant superintendent from 2004-2014.

Hub is the husband of Nanette and is the father of three children Keaton (23), Kasey (13), and Luke (8).

He has been recognized for his leadership and public relation skills with the following awards: “Principal with Principles” Award from Forward in the Fifth, “Hall of Fame” Award from the School-to-Careers Labor Market #16, and the 2002 “Education Award” for outstanding contributions to public education by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce.

The Scott County School Board began its search for a new superintendent after deciding not to renew the contract of current Superintendent Patricia Putty.
