Scott Co. Sheriff recovering after accidental shooting

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton is in fair condition at UK Hospital after accidentally shooting himself at his home.

Police in Georgetown say, around midnight Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning, Sheriff Hampton was carrying a gun while walking down the steps to his basement, when he lost his balance and fell.  The gun fired, hitting the Sheriff in the shoulder.

After a 911 call, Georgetown Police and EMS came to the scene, and the Sheriff was taken to the hospital.
