School to start one week later in Fayette County in 2017

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette County Board of Education voted Monday night to move back the start of the school year by one week beginning in August 2017. Classes were originally scheduled to resume August 9, 2017, but instead, school will begin August 16, 2017.

Some people felt the early start date made the summer vacation period too short.

The director of pupil personnel says a survey of 30-staff members found that 60-percent favored the later start date.

Fayette County is the state’s second largest public school district with more than 42,000 students.
