School bus crashes in Perry Co.

HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ) – A school bus in Perry County crashed this morning on HWY 28, sending several people to the hospital, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers say it happened around 8:00 a.m. on Kentucky HWY 28, in the Gay’s Creek community.

According to investigators, the school bus was headed eastbound when it went off the road and struck a tree.  The driver of the bus told police she had swerved to avoid a deer.

She and 13 students were taken to the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

No criminal charges are pending.
