School bus crash in Madison County sends several students to hospital

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Several students were taken to the hospital Monday after a school bus was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on a narrow roadway in Madison County, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the bus and another vehicle sideswiped each other while traveling on the narrow road. After that initial impact, the bus continued forward and struck an SUV.

Deputies said there were approximately 24 students on board the bus at the time of the crash. Officials confirmed that five students were taken to the hospital by ambulance, while a few others were taken for medical evaluation in a separate vehicle.

The driver and a passenger in the SUV were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said all of the remaining students were safely taken home on another bus sent to the scene.

According to investigators, everyone involved in the crash is expected to be treated for minor injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
