School board taking no action against Franklin County superintendent

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Franklin County Board of Education has announced it will not be taking action against the school superintendent who was recently indicted on a misdemeanor charge.

Mark Kopp is accused of attempted bribery of a public servant. The charges comes from statements he allegedly made during an investigation into a sexual abuse case involving a former teacher at Bondurant Middle School. The former teacher accused in the case, Todd Joseph Smith, was indicted Tuesday on sexual abuse charges.

At a special meeting called Thursday night, the board voted unanimously not to take action against Kopp.

“The Board reviewed the police report that it received through an open records request, and the written statement from Mr. Kopp,” the board said in a statement posted to Facebook. “It discussed the matter with the board attorney and as a Board. As a result, the chair made a motion to take no action at this time.”

The principal of the school, Whitney Allison, was also indicted Tuesday for failure to report child neglect or abuse.

The board also voted Thursday night not to take any action against her.

“An internal investigation regarding the allegation by the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office that Ms. Whitney Allison, Principal of Bondurant Middle School, failed to timely report an incident of child abuse in her building, has been on-going since March 2019,” the board said in a separate statement. “We have no information that supports the claim that Ms. Allison acted inappropriately and therefore, will not take any personnel action at this time.”
