Lexington animal rescue warns of scam targeting pet owners
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Lexington animal rescue is warning the public about a scam targeting local pet owners.
Paws 4 the Cause says scammers are calling people and asking for money while pretending to be representatives of the rescue.
One pet owner reported receiving a call claiming her missing dog had been found injured and needed $3,000 for surgery — but it turned out to be a scam.
The rescue says it will never call demanding payment for donations, lost pets, or services. Officials urge anyone who receives a suspicious call not to share personal or payment information and to report it immediately.
Paws 4 the Cause is also asking the public to share their warning post to help protect others in the community.
