Sayre Lower School Holding Ceremony For New Building

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The school year is just beginning, as students look to discover and learn new things.

This afternoon, Sayre Lower School is hoping a new building for students will help make learning a little easier.

Sayre Lower School is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:00 p.m. for a new 37,000 square foot building.

The building’s cost is $10 million dollars and includes 18 classrooms, a library, and a lower-level multi purpose room.

Other features include a state-of-the-art science laboratory that opens onto a rooftop terrace, an art room, and a music room.

The school will house over 250 students starting at age two and running through fourth grade.

Sayre Lower School also has new landscaping and playscape areas around the building, connecting the outside environment with classroom learning.

The school has a rich local tradition for education in Lexington and has been a presence in the city for over 160 years.

At the ribbon cutting, Mayor Jim Gray will join representatives from the school and the architecture firm that designed the building.
