Sayre women’s lacrosse finishes as runner-up in KHSAA State Championship

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – In the inaugural season of KHSAA sanctioned lacrosse, the Sayre Spartans women’s team finished runner up to the Bearcats of Kentucky Country Day; 18-2 the final score.

Anna Mullkin (Senior), Avery Luring (Senior) and Adrian Smith (8th) were named to the all-tournament team.

After the game, Head Coach of the Spartans Anna Cook had positive reflections on their first official season: “Out of all the teams in the state only two get to go to the end,” said Cook. “In general, we are just really proud and really excited that it was the first year of state and we got to be here.”

As KHSAA sanctioned lacrosse continues to advance and develop in the state of Kentucky, Cook said there is always room for improvement. “It takes some getting used to. Working hard to make sure that we are playing teams that are going to give us good competition, that we are going outside of our comfort zone, and making sure that we are doing everything we can. I think we did that for the most part.”
