Sarah Ramsey, legendary thoroughbred owner/breeder dies at 83

Visitation for Ramsey will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington Thursday

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Horse Racing community is mourning, following the loss of one of it’s most storied members

Sarah Ramsey, a top thoroughbred breeder and owner, has passed away.

Ramsey raced multiple breeder’s cup and derby winners, including 2014’s California chrome.

Union College says Ramsey was a big supporter of the college, her name is on the Center for Health and Natural Sciences, along with Ramsey Circle at the front of campus.

Bloodhorse.com reports Ramsey died peacefully at her home on Ramsey Farm in Nicholasville Sunday at the age of 83.

Her son Jeff Ramsey confirming the news on social media.

Visitation for Ramsey will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

Additional visitations will take place in Barbourville this week.

There will be a visitation at Knox Funeral Home, at 325 Knox St., in Barbourville, Ky. from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 3.

There will be a visitation at the East Barbourville Baptist Church, June 4, from noon until the funeral service at 2 p.m.

Burial will be across the street from the church at Barbourville Cemetery.
