Salvation Army continues to serve despite down year for donations
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Donations are down for The Salvation Army’s red kettle this year but that’s not stopping the non-profit from ‘doing the most good’ for others still.
Words of encouragement often accompany red kettle donations. Those donations haven’t come as frequently this year for The Salvation Army to the tune of $90,000 less than last season. It won’t keep them from serving though.
“We decided that we should stop concentrating on the shortfall and do what we do best and that’s think about others,” says Major Tom Hinzman.
The afternoon brought a simple gesture for folks searching for that little holiday something.
“Every kettle location throughout the city is accepting prayer requests throughout the day and donors and those passing by are welcome to put in their thoughts and just how we can pray for them,” says Hinzman.
Christmas day will bring a different kind of holiday cheer. Cooks are hard-at-work prepping for a meal set to feed a thousand.
